The Black Dog is a great pub located in Vauxhall’s historic Pleasure Gardens. Under previous ownership it had been known as The Lavender. But when it was completely refurbished by new owners in 2010, they restored the original name, and they asked me to put together a new identity to go with it. I drew up a dog logomark (adapted from one of the pub’s earlier signs, which still adorns the building), and combined it with robust condensed woodblock letterforms, as well as a more refined classical serif, and added in some canine copy.
